NetMon 5.0.1 Release Notes - 1 April 2025

Welcome to NetMon 5.0.1! This version delivers improvements to the initial release of NetMon 5.0.0, including upgrades to the detection engine.

What’s new in NetMon 5.0.1:

New Features

Updated Application Protocol Database

Network Monitor has been updated to the latest release of the Application Protocol Database, which provides over 4700 new Applications and Protocols that can be identified. For more information on available applications and protocols, see the NetMon Supported Applications topic.

Upgraded Application Detection Engine

An upgraded Application Detection Engine adds the new MitmScore field on certain logs, which provides a risk level around certain traffic.

Improvements

API Key Changes

To improve security, the API key is no longer displayed at all times. This key is now only displayed once when it is generated. Be sure to make note of your API key when generated, as it will not be accessible afterwards.

Important NetMon 5.0.1 Upgrade Process

Before upgrading to NetMon 5.0.1, you must be running NetMon 5.0.0. However, if you are on an older version of NetMon, you can use the 5.0.1 ISO to re-install your NetMon appliance, but you cannot upgrade from a version of NetMon prior to 5.0.0 directly to NetMon 5.0.1.

Install the Tar Utility

Before uploading the lrp package and upgrading from 5.0.0 to 5.0.1, it is necessary to install the tar utility.

To install the tar utility:

1. Connect to the NetMon appliance over SSH as the user logrhythm.

2. Run the following command:

sudo dnf install tar

Upgrade from 5.0.0 to 5.0.1

Refer to the Upgrade NetMon Software section for information on upgrading NetMon directly from version 5.0.0 to 5.0.1.

Install NetMon 5.0.1

If installing/re-imaging to NetMon 5.0.1 from a version prior to 5.0.0, refer to the Install NetMon section of our documentation for the complete process.
