Create a Custom MMC Console


  1. In the lower-left corner of the Windows desktop, right click the Start icon, and then click Run. 
    The Run dialog box appears.
  2. In the text box to the right of Open, type mmc
  3. Click OK.
    The Console Root window appears.
  4. On the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
    The Add or Remove Snap-ins dialog box appears.
  5. In the Available snap-ins list box, click Computer Management, and then click Add.
    The Computer Management dialog box appears.
  6. Verify that Local Computer (the computer this console is running on) is selected, and then click Finish.
  7. In the Available snap-ins list box, click Group Policy Object Editor, and then click Add.
    The Select Group Policy Object dialog box appears.
  8. Verify that Local Computer is selected in the Group Policy Object box, and then click Finish.
  9. In the Available snap-ins list box, click Certificates, and then click Add.
    The Certificates snap-in dialog box appears.
  10. Select Computer Account, and then click Next.
  11. Verify that (the computer this console is running on) is selected, and then click Finish.
  12. In the Available snap-ins list box, click IP Security Monitor, and then click Add
    We will use the IP Security Monitor tool to monitor the successful security connections the IPsec policy creates.
  13. Click OK.
  14. On the File menu, click Save
    The Save dialog box appears.
  15. In the File Name box, enter a name for your MMC console (for example, MMC Console or IPsec MMC Console).
  16. In the Save In box, select where to save your MMC console.
  17. Click Save.
  18. Keep your MMC Console open and proceed to the next topic.
