Retire and Reactivate a Collector

Only Administrators can take this action.

Retire and activate actions are only available at the collector level.

Temporarily retiring a collector may be useful when troubleshooting a processing error with a collector or one of its log sources. This allows the admin to pause processing during troubleshooting and mitigate additional incoming noise (error messages, notifications, etc.).

Retire a Collector

Retiring a collector immediately disconnects the collector and stops data collection from all log sources associated with the collector.

Retiring a collector also retires all log sources associated with that collector. However, all data and sources that existed prior to retirement are preserved. If the collector is reactivated, log sources associated with that collector are also reactivated. Data collection resumes from the activation date forward.
  1. In the lower-left corner of the main screen, click the Administration cog icon.
The Administration menu appears on the left side.
  2. Under Integrations, click Collectors.
    The Active Collectors list appears.
  3. Click the Collector Name you want to retire.
The collector configuration details page appears.
  4. In the upper-right corner, click Actions, and then click Retire.
The Retire Collector confirmation box appears.
  5. Click Yes, Retire.
The collector and all associated log sources are retired.

Reactivate a Collector

Reactivating a collector also reactivates all log sources associated with that collector.
  1. In the lower-left corner of the main screen, click the Administration cog icon.
The Administration menu appears on the left side.
  2. Under Integrations, click Collectors.
    The Active Collectors list appears.
  3. Click the Retired tab.
  4. Click the Collector Name you want to reactivate.
The collector configuration details page appears.
  5. In the upper-right corner, click Actions, and then click Activate.
The Activate Collector confirmation box appears.
  6. Click Yes, Activate.
The collector and all associated log sources are reactivated.

Upon reactivating the collector, all log sources associated with that collector are also reactivated. Data collection resumes from the activation date forward.
